Outstanding school musical with a talented young ensemble cast complete with a house band. Jaw-droppingly good music in an almost through-sung simple play of present day Dickensian feel. Everyone well above expectations, singers and band alike. Not a weak performance in sight.
Hats off to 18-year-old musical prodigy running the music. Expect great things from this chap Laurence T-Stannard. This here is already world class musical work. The story is an adaptation of Brecht's The Good Person of Szechwan, a meditation on altruism and living a good life in dire circumstances, with the gods above looking down on us.
Stellar work across the board, the lead role sung with great emotion and refined sensibilities. Suffers only from typical high school musical production issues - superfluous roles, over-the-top costuming, at times hammy delivery, and everyone being the same age.
A surprise hit, this was one good musical!
