#16 Maria Stuarda -opera

Lauriston Hall

Very minimal orchestra - a pianist with a page turner, and a conductor. Minimalistic props, plain dress. Understandable setup, but still looked a little cheap. Quality singing, the echo of the hall not doing anyone favours - plugs again. Couldn't quite follow the first half, no subtitles, but once I took a sneak peek at the plot at intermission, had much more enjoyable second half. Donizetti still didn't really open up for me. Title role was sung at a note that I couldn't parse.
